Data From Noise
Figure 1.
(a) Raw shot gather after band-pass filtering and b) the super-virtual CSG with an improved SNR.
OBJECTIVE:
Increase the SNR of the far offset traces using SVI.
PROCEDURE:
- This data was collected at the location of Qademah Fault near KAUST, KSA. We used a 109 receivers planted at 3 m interval in a 2D line. Time interval is 0.25 ms and number of samples/trace is 4000. We collected 109 shot gathers at 3 m interfavl, where we have one shot at each receiver location.
- Download into your working directory the data file (Data) and the codes (Codes). The data file contains the 109 shot gathers in MatLab format.
- Select one shot gather that has far offset traces with low SNR.
- Apply SVI to this shot gather to increase the SNR of all traces.
- Compair the traces before and after SVI in time and frequency domains.
- Pick the first arrival traveltime of the selected shot gather before and after SVI, any changes? why?
- Plot the picked traveltimes before and after SVI on the same plot using the same scale.
